Founded in 1963, Bonsai Clubs International (BCI) is one of the most prominent international organizations dedicated to bonsai and suiseki. Since its founding, it has worked to foster the exchange of knowledge among masters, artists, researchers, clubs, and associations worldwide, contributing decisively to the international growth of these disciplines.
Over more than six decades, BCI has promoted international conventions, specialized publications, educational programs, and cooperative projects that have served as a meeting point for generations of professionals and enthusiasts. Its work has favored both the preservation of Japanese tradition and its dialogue with other cultures, building an international community united by respect for art, nature, and the transmission of knowledge.
Among the most prestigious initiatives developed by BCI is the International Instructor Program, created to recognize professionals whose careers demonstrate a significant contribution to the teaching, research, and promotion of bonsai and suiseki.
Belonging to this program means joining an international network of instructors committed to training new generations, rigorously disseminating knowledge, and preserving the artistic and cultural principles that underpin these disciplines.
More than a technical accreditation, it represents the recognition of a career built over the years through teaching, publications, lectures, exhibitions, research, and active participation in the international community.
BCI also maintains a public Instructor's Directory, conceived as a guide to the art of living miniatures: a resource meant to connect clubs and enthusiasts worldwide with mentors, whether for first pruning steps or advanced techniques rooted in Asian tradition, always under BCI's commitment to ethical practice, sustainability, and international friendship.
This distinction recognizes more than two decades dedicated to the study, research, and teaching of bonsai and suiseki, along with extensive outreach through lectures, courses, specialized publications, exhibitions, and cultural projects in Spain and internationally.
My work has always been oriented toward understanding and conveying bonsai and suiseki as artistic disciplines deeply connected to the contemplation of nature, aesthetic sensibility, and traditional Japanese thought.
BCI · Instructor's Directory My profile appears in BCI's official Instructor's Directory — the same resource the organization makes available to clubs and enthusiasts around the world to locate qualified bonsai and suiseki teachers.
Being part of the International Instructor Program also means committing to continue spreading these values with rigor, respect, and fidelity to tradition, fostering cultural exchange between East and West, and contributing to the preservation of an artistic heritage that continues to evolve without losing its essence.
Every accreditation finds its true meaning through the work that continues after it is received.
For this reason, this incorporation into the International Instructor Program represents not only recognition of the career built so far, but also the responsibility to keep researching, teaching, and sharing knowledge with the same dedication that has guided my work for more than twenty years.
The transmission of knowledge is an essential part of the cultural legacy of bonsai and suiseki. Helping keep that legacy alive, accessible, and faithful to its principles is, now more than ever, one of the fundamental goals of my work.
Bonsai Clubs International (BCI) is founded with the aim of promoting bonsai and suiseki through international cooperation among clubs, associations, and professionals.
Development of international conventions, specialized publications, educational programs, and collaborative networks that establish BCI as one of the world's leading institutions in the promotion of bonsai and suiseki.
Masaru Buko is incorporated into the Bonsai Clubs International International Instructor Program, listed in its official Instructor's Directory as Bonsai and Suiseki Instructor, in recognition of his career in teaching, research, and outreach.
